SHORT-TERM OBSERVERSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL<\/strong>
MEDICAL RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Residency Training Program offered by the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences<\/em><\/strong> of the Escola Paulista de Medicina – Universidade Federal de S\u00e3o Paulo (UNIFESP)<\/em><\/strong>, in conjunction with the Hospital S\u00e3o Paulo<\/em><\/strong>, offers physicians state-of-the-art training in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of eye disorders and diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the three-year program, with an optative 4th<\/sup> year, our residents get exposed to the latest technology, while stimulated to develop the social commitment and humanistic approach required by the medical profession. All activities are under direct supervision of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences faculty, notorious for their up-to-date knowledge and leadership in the national and international Ophthalmology scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An ongoing course is integrated into the training program throughout the three years of residency. Furthermore, not only the Program offers optional complementary short-term rotations in well-known American and European Eye Institutes, but also the opportunity to join social health programs all over the country, especially those aiming the most vulnerable populations to eye diseases and blindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Approved by the National Commission of Residency Training (CNRM) and by the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology (CBO), the Program, inaugurated in 1964, has graduated more than 550 Ophthalmologists, distributed throughout the country, as well as overseas. Moreover, our Residents have been amongst the best scores in the National Board examination, evidencing the Program excellence in training ophthalmologists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SHORT-TERM OBSERVERSHIP PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL PHYSICIANS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences offers a short-term Clinical Observership Program<\/em><\/strong> (with no patient contact) for physicians enrolled in a certified Ophthalmology Residency Program in Brazil and abroad, in all subspecialties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visiting physicians can observe the faculty activities in the clinic and OR, as well as attend conferences, clinical rounds and Grand Rounds. Observerships are expected to be in one subspecialty only, and to have the duration from one to four weeks, upon approval and availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applicants should submit: (1) a short CV, (2) a letter explaining how the Observership will contribute to their career, and (3) a letter from their program director authorizing the activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration procedures at UNIFESP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Researchers, Fellows, and Students interested in coming to UNIFESP for short-period training should first identify and reach out to a faculty member whose work aligns with their interests. The decision to approve such activities lies with a faculty member and their respective Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the faculty member approves the activity, they will issue a letter of acceptance and request any necessary documents for the visitor\u2019s registration. Afterwards, the faculty member initiates the final registration process and submits it to the UNIFESP International Office (SRI) for completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SHORT-TERM OBSERVERSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL STUDENTS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

UNIFESP accepts undergraduate students from foreign Institutions to accomplish an academic period according to the requirements described below and the availability of vacancies. UNIFESP privileges receiving students from institutions of higher education that already have a cooperation agreement with UNIFESP. Undergraduate students can require a studying period at UNIFESP, according to one of the three following purposes: Academic Exchange<\/em><\/strong>, Research Activity <\/em><\/strong>or Specialized Elective Activity<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International undergraduate students must verify the procedures and send required documentation direct to the UNIFESP<\/em><\/strong> International Office <\/em><\/strong>by e-mail:\u00a0international@unifesp.br<\/a><\/a> .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IMMUNIZATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proof of the following vaccinations must be provided once you have been accepted in the program and prior to the start of your Observership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. MEASLES, MUMPS, RUBELLA (MMR)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. HEPATITIS B (three dosage vaccination, dates are required)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. YELLOW FEVER<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TRAVEL INSURANCE:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Observers required to carry $150,000USD (minimum) accident and sickness medical benefits,   Emergency   Medical   Evacuation   of $25,000USD, Return of Mortal Remains – $10,000USD, and Emergency Dental for accidents $500USD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you already have international insurance with these coverage specifications, please submit copies of your policy along with your application form. If you do not have the above coverage, you will be required to purchase insurance prior to your arrival at UNIFESP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
